Step 5:  Define Target (Focal) Species

Through coordination with agency partners, target species for the habitat fragmentation assessment should be identified. Obtaining early consensus on the number and types of species to be evaluated is essential to maintaining a streamlined process. Once a target species has been identified, it is important to become familiar with its lifecycle requirements, especially any habitat specific attributes. These attributes can align with minimum patch size thresholds and habitat connectivity needs.
