5. Land use/transportation interaction (Integrated Modeling)To further characterize the transportation problems in the county, an investigation was conducted to determine the effects of transportation on land use and vice-versa. This issue is of concern to many in the county who wish to preserve its rural character. By integrating travel demand and land use modeling the county could more adequately analyze interaction between economic activity and transportation. In this case, the county developed its own land-use models for residential and non-residential location choice. The residential location choice model provides the travel demand model with household estimates stratified by size, income and age. The non-residential model provides an estimate of workers by a handful of SIC categories. The land-use models utilize accessibility measured as travel time by the travel demand model. 5.
