17. Traffic simulation using VISSIM (4D Simulation)
Traffic simulation proved to be a useful tool to help develop alternatives and then demonstrate to stakeholders aspects of traffic operation under various alternatives. The micro-simulation model VISSIM was selected to simulate existing and proposed conditions at a problematic intersection along the project corridor. A particular concern at this location was bus delay that prevented busses from meeting their schedules. The VISSIM animation allows aerial photography to be used as a backdrop to the simulation providing stakeholders additional information regarding the location such as the presence of access points that may not be modeled as well as surrounding land uses.
