During alternative identification and refinement, GIS data was integrated with the Computer Aided Drafting and Design software to facilitate consideration of environmental resources in the design process. By making GIS data on environmental constraints available in the design environment, potential environmental resource impacts were avoided or minimized as part of the initial design effort.
